Chilli & Soy Chicken

Chilli & Soy Chicken with Kale and Broccoli

I couldn't have been more in love with this meal, my boyfriend is a fantastic cook and this is a really healthy meal to try!
The sauce is really simple, 2 parts soy to 1 part water, cornmeal for thickness blended with ginger, chilli  , garlic and seasoned to taste. Add this to the cooked chicken to heat through and thicken. I honestly prefer raw vegetables, but these have been boiled for 2 minutes until warm and seasoned with garlic salt and pepper.

New York Fashion Week

The previous week saw the annual New York Fashion Week, and this means that you have more chances than ever before to learn about the latest styles out there such as couture dresses, sparkle skirts, and lace clothing. Amidst a snowstorm that devastated New York City, the fashion world was treated to new clothing from the highest-end models and creators in the world.

What the World Saw

The world outside might have been white due to all the snow, but the fashions shown off during New York Fashion Week came in a wide variety of colours. Greys and blacks were particularly popular, such as black leather skirts and pewter grey evening wear. There were also a variety of warmer colours put on display as well, including red lace dresses, violet silk skirts, and patterned tops. The general colour palette of the event seemed to focus mostly on silvers and greys that would effectively draw the eye amidst a more colourful background. Barring that, there were plenty of warm colours such as reds, oranges, and yellows that would be able to provide the same impact against a white or grey background.

Fashions that Might Stay Around

One of the interesting elements of New York Fashion Week is the fact that some fashions don't catch on but others do – and, as it turns out, many experts are able to conclude almost immediately after the show what direction the different fashions will take. This year, functionality won against many other fashions, thanks in large part to the sudden heavy snowfall and the fact that the 2014 Winter Olympics are getting a lot of media attention. One example of the new limited-edition clothing out there is the fur-trimmed winter parka coat shown off by model David Verde. Functionality seems to be back in, and possesses a high degree of value when it comes to the latest fashions out there.

Spring and Summer Clothing

On the opposite end of the spectrum, spring clothing fashions focused on bright primary colours such as yellows and reds. While past fashions have focused on floral patterns and other printed designs, this year’s show focused less on prints and more on fancy lace designs. This includes a red lace backless skater dress and a yellow crochet lace dress. The lack of a visible print makes the clothing appear more subtle, yet still provides a touch of elegance. A lace print requires those who are interested in seeing the details of the pattern to look closely, which then draws more attention to the wearer. You will likely see these spring and summer fashions beginning to crop up as the weather starts to warm up and dry out.

New York Fashion Week is one of the biggest and most influential fashion shows in the world. The limited edition clothing shown off here should be taking the world by storm very soon. Some of the newest fashions are already available on websites like

Be My Valentine

Stuck for ideas on what to ask for from your loved one this Valentines Day? Admittedly, it may arrive after the date, but all these pieces are simply beautiful and available from my favourite online Jewellery store - Jewellery World. Rings are always on trend, they can liven up any outfit and I wouldn't go a day without my Onyx Ring with a silver ship embossed on it, which I inherited from my Grandfather. The store has many similar ones, but my favourite has to be 9ct Yellow Gold Onyx Ring priced at £174.99.

When it comes to earrings simplicity is key for me. If you have a few extra pounds I would definitely go with the 1ct Diamond Earrings, but there are many others more within a healthy budget, which are equally as beautifully. I recently bought these 9ct White Gold studs priced at £44.99, such a great price and they are even more pretty in real life! Maybe you have seen my cheeky little selfie wearing them on  instagram (@newyorkdollblog).

Check back for a follow up post on my new jewellery pieces and how I'd style them!

Sweet Potato Salmon #NewYorkDollFit

Sweet Potato Salmon

Estimated Prep Time: 10 min
Estimated Cook Time: 25 min
Makes 2 servings
Cooking Materials
  • Medium saucepan
  • Handheld mixer
  • grill or heavy medium skillet
  • Large skillet with a cover
  1. Peel the yams and cut them into large chunks. Place the in a saucepan, cover with water, bring to a boil, and cook until soft, 15 to 20 min. Remove from the heat, drain, add sugar and cinnamon, and whip with a handheld mixer until fluffy. Set aside and keep warm.
  2. Whie the yams are cooking, heat the grill or a heavy skillet. Rinse the salmon and pat it dry with paper towels. Place it skin-side down on the grill and top each piece with half of the butter. Cook undisturbed until the salmon flakes easily, about 10 to 15 min; do not turn.
  3. Just before the salmon is done, heat the oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add the spinach, cover, and cook, shaking the pan occasionally, about 2 min. (You want the spinach to wilt and shrink, but not become soggy.)
  4. Place a scoop of mashed yams on each serving plate. Top with spinach. Slide a spatula between the fish and the skin, and lift off the fish. Place the fish on the spinach. (You can remove the skin from the grill and discard it after dinner.) Sprinkle with the chopped pecans and serve.

Halloween #ThrowBackThursday

This #ThrowBackThursday I am reminiscing last years Halloween, it only seems like last week, but it was so much fun! The first night of celebrations resulted in the backless vintage velvet dress coming out to play and the second night a lot less. Thank you Ann Summers for providing and not much left to the imagination outfit for Swankeys at Pacha.
